Whether you’re learning a language, painting, or doing anything else creative, your results in that activity ______1______ by a whole lot of factors: your disposition, talent, experience, health, the effort you put into it, and so on. People tend to divide those influences roughly into two groups: physical factors, such as health, and mental factors, i.e. intelligence, talent, etc. But the dividing line can be ______2______. Intellectuals tend to despise ordinary physical activities because they say they work with their minds. But the mind, or at least the brain, is also a physical matter. And the condition of the brain can hardly be separated from the condition of the rest of the body. It’s funny how when your big toe hurts, your whole universe suddenly becomes somewhat toe-centric.

Anyone who wants to ______3______in mental activities, such as language learning, book translation, teaching activities, whatever, should not disregard the condition of their body. So today we will discuss the principles of the one and only correct lifestyle, namely mine. First and foremost: Be humble…

So again. Let´s talk about the lifestyle ______4______. You can get inspired. Or you can think I am crazy.

1. Get up and go to bed at around the same time. Always. On Monday and Saturday. Your body has its own biorhythms, and it loves a routine. A reasonable one.

2. Exercise in the morning, stretch, and do some ______5______. Everyone according to their needs. Someone with back problems will probably do something else than those struggling with weight.

3. Take a cold shower. It will wake you up better than a coffee could, it will get your blood, lymph and qi moving. Seriously. If you don’t know how, ask Mr Wim Hof. You can find the basic principles ______6______ on the Internet, and you don’t even have to buy his expensive course. It basically just sells cold water anyway.

4. Have a healthy breakfast. I probably wouldn’t ______7______ with biscuits, buns and fried sausages with egg, jam and toast.

5. 15 minutes with Duolingo or another popular online language learning platform.

6. Get to work.

7. After a healthy lunch, a short siesta is ______8______. Yeah, that’s easier said than done. So, take that siesta if you need, want, and can.

8. Keep working.

9. Go for a walk, run, swim, or climb a hill in the fresh air. And pretty briskly, chop-chop.

10. ______9______ your hobbies, do whatever makes you happy.

11. After an early, healthy dinner, continue your daily plan as you see fit.

12. 15 minutes with Duolingo or another popular online language learning platform.

13. Don’t stare at the screen too much in the evening, you’ve been doing it all day anyway. Think about the quality of the ______10______. Blue light is not a very good thing before sleep. If you would like to know why and how and what to do about it, watch a video by Mr Medřický. He’s a bit of an eccentric and takes it a bit too seriously, but basically, he’s right. And he is also the owner of a company that produces healthy light bulbs.

14. Go to bed at about the same time, so that you sleep for about 8-9 hours. In the blackest possible darkness. If you wonder why and how, read the book: Why we sleep. Anyone who reads it will be so horrified by the consequences of ______11______that they are guaranteed not to fall asleep ever again.

15. Maintain healthy, harmonious, and mutually enriching relationships with people. Get yourself some meaningful, life philosophy, one that´s full of hope and optimism. Immediately.

It is true that all those things like exercise, cold showers, movement in the fresh air, and a long sleep are ______12______, and that because of them one cannot devote so much time to work – and learning. On the other hand, it is a fact that a well-rested, healthy individual bursting with energy works faster and more efficiently. Sleep-deprived workaholics may spend more time at work, but the question is whether it’s worth it. Not really.

And the last thing, it ______13______that nothing is set in stone, and even this rigid-looking list offers the possibility to be modified as needed. Except for the cold shower. That is mandatory.
